Lawn Fertilization
Weed Patrol has been fertilizing lawns and controlling weeds for over 30 years in Edmonton, Sherwood Park, St. Albert and Beaumont. We are the local experts when it comes to green grass. Our goal is for you to have a lawn you will be proud of and to become the neighbor with the greenest lawn. The nutrient that is most important for green grass is fertilizer. The Weed Patrol lawn care program is 5 applications of liquid fertilizer from May to September. Our professional fertilizer is a balance of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium with micronutrients that not only feed the blades of your grass but the roots and soil too! Commercial-grade weed control is used to treat any weeds on your lawn.

Every Weed Patrol application is both liquid fertilizer and commercial grade weed control. Not three applications of fertilizer and two separate treatments of weed control like our competition but all 5 applications are both a professional quality fertilizer and commercial weed control.
We use the best liquid fertilizer for your lawn. We prefer liquid fertilizer over granular for several reasons. It’s a faster greening, so you see results quicker. Liquid fertilizer has minimal burning; it does not need to be watered in immediately after an application like granular. Less watering in drier conditions because liquid grows deeper roots. It is quickly absorbed into the lawn so children and pets can be back outside usually within an hour after treatment. It is gentle on all types of paws and is even better for our feathered friends who mistake granular fertilizer for food. Liquid fertilizer means no messy sidewalks to sweep up after an application.
We understand the local weather and how quickly it changes so we mix our fertilizer weekly to achieve optimal greening despite the unpredictable Edmonton weather. Our fertilizer is also adjusted for the time of the season. In the spring we focus on early green-up and in the fall we add more nutrients for the roots. We’ll notify you before all applications the day before and we’ll happily reschedule if you have any back yard plans. We want you to enjoy your beautiful lawn this summer. We’ll send an after-service email with lawn tips, watering and mowing instructions after each application. We flag both the front and back yard so you know all areas are covered. We do behind the fence when we have access and all boulevards-we spray where you mow. We guarantee our results. We apply the maximum amount of weed control to the lawn each treatment, so we get very few callbacks.
Frequently Asked Questions
When can I mow after an application?
Mow anytime before an application but please don’t mow too short. We see better weed control results if the lawn is at least 2 ½”. We recommend waiting 48 hours after an application before cutting your lawn. If you water the next day then you can go ahead and mow once the lawn is dry.
What is the recommended mowing height?
It’s best to mow at 2 ½-3”. The lawn will look the greenest at this height and the weeds will have enough leaves to absorb the weed control for a good kill.
Do I need to water my lawn?
No, but we do recommend watering for a greener lawn. Lawns will go dormant if they do not get a minimum of 1 hour of moisture each week from either rainfall or watering. The grass is 90% water, so more moisture means a healthier greener lawn.
It rained after the application, did the spray wash away?
The product we use can be applied in all sorts of weather including light rain. The results of the fertilizer or weed control will not be diminished even if applied shortly before a heavy downpour.
I have a dog; do you notify me before an application?
Weed Patrol we let you know by email, text or phone call the day before each application so you can keep the dog inside on the day of service. If you’re home, the dog can play outside and the technician will ring the doorbell to let you know when we have arrived.
My kids just let the dog out, what do I do?
Liquid fertilizer is quickly absorbed into the lawn. If the dog accidentally goes outside while the lawn is still wet, veterinarians just recommend washing the paws.
Lawn Fertilization Seasons
Your grass is fed nutrients approximately every 4-5 weeks over the growing season. A typical season is May to September depending on our local Edmonton weather.
Spring Starter Fertilizer (May): A balanced professional liquid fertilizer will be applied to your lawn to give it a quick green-up and to establish healthy new growth. As in all treatments, broadleaf weed control will be applied to all visible weeds.
Early Season Fertilizer (June): This formulation, like all 5 treatments, maintains a healthy thick turf by providing the essential nutrient to the lawn.
Summer Fertilizer (July): Overall greening is continued without excessive turf growth or burning in the summer heat.
Late Summer Fertilizer (August): Fertilizer continues to make the lawn more resistant to drought by stimulating root development.
Fall Fertilizer (September): Fertilizer promotes better color retention, reduces winter kill, root development and promotes early green-up in the spring.
Our Edmonton lawn care program is also 5 treatments of weed control because weeds germinate, flower and spread at different times during the spring/summer season.
Commercial strength weed control is applied to each application.
Trust our customer reviews. The Weed Patrol program of liquid fertilizer and weed control is the best step towards a beautiful green lawn that you will love.
